Unparalleled Reach of ‘We Can’ Messages through Radio

Vikalp Sansthan , an NGO in Rajasthan active in the development of youth in the last five years and in the ‘We Can’ in the last two years, has taken the initiative to popularise the campaign through the use of radio.

As the emphasis is on building networks in the second phase of the campaign, Vikalp Sansthan as a campaign ally has managed to lend efforts to gather two lakh Change Makers in 14 districts. It is spreading its reach of the campaign message through a variety of methods. One of them is the radio. As the youth is tuned into radio and many of them use their mobiles to listen to songs, Vikalp Sansthan has begun to reach them through programmes on the air.

Change Makers of ‘We Can’ have managed to get radio time on Suncity FM radio, Lakecity FM radio and AIR Udaipur and AIR Jaipur. The radio slots are for half an hour every month and devoted entirely to the campaign. Called ‘Aab khamosh nahi rehna’, the programmes have a definite format. It begins with the signature tune of the campaign. It is followed by an episode and then by listeners calls and replies and also responses to their letters. The stories of Change Makers are handled next and this is followed by dramatised play on the subject of violence against women. The programme rounds of by giving the mailing address and the signature tune of the campaign is played as a finale.

Information of these programmes and their respective timings are widely circulated so that the current reach of 1 lakh 20,000 listeners is widened further. Change Makers say that after the airing of the programmes, many more people are volunteering to be Change Makers.
