Twenty year-old Sunita of Vangapalli village, Nalagonda district, Andhra Pradesh, says, “A man in my village lived with this woman for years but denied being married to her or their children being his. It made for an unfortunate situation. The defenseless woman did not know what to do. One of the campaign’s Change Makers approached an advocate and sent the man a legal notice and even managed to get him a sentence in jail. His family reciprocated by slapping charges on the woman and her family. The situation has been now resolved amicably. All this happened needlessly and essentially as there is no respect for women in our society.”
