A String of Campaign Events in Maharashtra
Around 450 alliance members are taking the campaign ahead in 33 districts of the state. They have managed to mobilise around 90,000 Change Makers. The concept of the 1000 Events has been popularised in all the districts and it is gathering momentum. In December 2008, seven regional meetings of core members were held; and 150 re-engagement camps for Change Makers were organised to reintroduce the concept of Change Makers in many places. Between December 2008 and February 2009, 33 district alliance meetings were held to plan and monitor the 1000 Events and 3567 village awareness programmes were held.
The implementation of 1000 events has been carried on in all 33 districts of Maharashtra. Altogether 10,234 Change Makers have been involved in conducting 1000 events in their respective areas. Around 800 events have been held in a form of discussions, awareness meetings, public rallies, cultural programmes, and essay and drawing competitions. Each event has lasted on an average between three to four hours. It has been estimated that a total of 28,200 events have been held in seven regions of the state – Mumbai, Konkan, Western Maharashtra, North Maharashtra, Marathawada, Eastern Vidharba and Western Vidharba.
Besides distributing campaign materials widely, the allies have also been able to co-opt government departments, educational institutes, and professional bodies into the campaign.
