Raju Vishwakarma: Every Voice Counts
Twenty three-year-old Raju Vishwakarma from Sindhupalchowk district, Nepal, says, “I come from the less advantaged strata of society. Most of the people in my community do not progress beyond class five in school. I am fortunate to have had a good education. I feel as I am among the few literate persons in my community I must do something to address the issue of violence against women that I see all around me. It could help women lead better lives. I have joined a group that uses theatre to spread messages on the subject. We get the spectators watching us to be integral part of the play. This way they begin to relate to the issue. We have also taken to working with various sections of the society – housewives, lawyers, army and the police – and taking ‘We Can’ messages to them. We feel that every voice counts
