Pushpa Bansod: Changing Mindsets

Puspa Bansod lives in Ambedkar Ward, Gandhi Chowk, Bhandara district, Maharashtra. As her communication skills are good and she interacts well with her community members, she involved herself in various social activities organised by YUVA, a campaign ally, and with the Mahila Vikash Parishad (the Parishad combats violence against women). Her husband, however, did not take kindly to her activities and was opposed to her interacting with members of the community. He even began to torture her. Initially she was fazed but decided that the only way of the situation was to change the way her husband thought and acted. She had just joined ‘We Can’ and implored him to join her. This has dramatically altered his attitudes and practices. He is far more sensitive to the concerns and needs of women and even talks to other men, urging them to help out at home and to stop abusing them.
