Public service advertisements on television

Three public service advertisements on domestic violence devised by the campaign allies are being currently aired on prime television channels. Though the individual advertisements vary the context and environment within which domestic violence occur, they together expose the pervasiveness of the problem. Identifying the different kinds of physical violence that women are subjected to within their own homes, the advertisements also talk of non-physical violence and underline they can be equally, if not more, debilitating than physical violence. An attempt has also been made to bring out women’s own perceptions of the violence faced by them. All the advertisements are tied together by their strong and unequivocal statement that domestic violence is a ‘public’ not a ‘private’ issue. The advertisements have evoked an enthusiastic response from viewers.
