National Change Maker Assembly, Kathmandu, Nepal

A three-day National Change Maker Assembly was held at Kathmandu from November 13 to 15, 2008. It was organised by the ‘We Can’ National Alliance Secretariat with the objective of providing a forum to Change Makers to share their experiences, achievements and challenges.

Sarada Pokharel, the coordinator of ‘We Can’ National Alliance Secretariat, chaired the assembly. The opening day was inaugurated by Rt. Hon. Subas Nembang.

Change Makers from more than 40 districts, women activists, human right activists, Constituent Assembly members, journalists and guests from Bangladesh and India participated in this assembly. It is estimated that 700 people were present in the assembly.

On the second day, seven parallel sessions were held to build capacity of the Change Makers. Cultural programmes were held where there was drama, songs, dance recitals and poems on the issue of violence against women. The Change Makers said there were delighted with the opportunity to interact and learn from each other.
