Mahendra, Prabhat and Gopal: Tenacious Team
A group of three men are disseminating ‘We Can’ messages on violence against women and acting as a support group.
"We go to all the meetings that take place. There, we sit down and discuss violence against women and what can be done to achieve equality."
Prabhat
"…And we talk about how women’s rights are violated everyday … you see, I didn’t even understand what violence against women meant and the different ways women are abused. Through the posters and the material we learnt about the different kinds of violence."
Mahendra
"Also, the meetings themselves are very useful … most times we get a positive result, but sometimes people disagree with us and I think there’s a lot to be learnt from this too."
Prabhat
"But, you know, the way forward is to use the material and our meetings to mobilise as many people as possible. We all joined at the same time and now we support and encourage each other. In the same way, we need to get others to join us and start making changes. I help my mother with the housework. If, for example, she’s late returning from the farm, I’ll cook dinner for us. It is changes such as these that will lead to more equality in relationships."
Gopal
"That’s true; it’s one thing to talk about changing, but to actually make changes in your own life is very difficult. We should all make such changes in our lives and then fight for change in our community."
Mahendra
