Lending Momentum to Phase 2 Activities
In India, the 13 state allies of 'We Can' are busy negotiating their way through Phase 2 activities. Selected Change Makers called Connectors are being trained so that they can take the campaign messages further and further through newsletters and other campaign communication materials and methods and deepen their own change. Mobile vans are being used in all state to lend visibility to the campaign. These vans have been active in the months of November and December 2009 in most of the states. The allies have charted out their routes so that the vans travel from the state to the district and the villages, stopping at various points to hold presentations, slide shows, distribute communication materials, perform street theatre and other cultural events (including story telling sessions by Change Makers) and also enlist new Change Makers. Efforts are also underway to institutionalise change by engaging schools and educational institutions. Many states are in the process of holding training sessions for teachers and involving principals and other key school staff in 'We Can'. The idea is help schools understand why addressing domestic violence in schools is vital. The allies are also promoting campaign messages through hoardings, wall writings and banners, local communication materials and they are also widening their alliance networks at the state, district and village level.
