Kartik Meshram is a resident of Serasghat village, district Bhandara in Maharashtra. He is a painter by profession and belongs to an extremely conservative family. Married for 12 years, he is the father of three girls. His family and he were very unhappy as a result. Kartik was keen on a male offspring but had put off having a child because of the family’s precarious financial situation. It was at time that he became part of ‘We Can’. The campaign changed his perspective. He is no longer keen to have a son. He instead plans to shower his attention and love on his girls, educate them and make them self-reliant. Kartik Meshram is an active campaigner and spreads campaign messages through powadas, a traditional form of singing, in which he is proficient.
