International women’s day

India ‘We Can’ marked International Women’s Day on 8 March 2007 with capacity building training sessions on gender and orientation sessions for Change Makers, gram pradhans and local leaders in Rajasthan.

In Tamil Nadu, there were celebrations at the All Women’s Police Station (Tower Park, Anna Nagar) and a huge fair for 4,000 women in Tamil Nadu that sought to sensitise people on domestic violence and livelihoods opportunities. This is to be followed by functions at the Women Readers’ Forum in Madurai and a host of rallies and cultural programmes; and meetings and trainings later in the month. And, in West Bengal, there were meetings at the panchayat level (where the focus was on a women farmer’s workshop).
