Husna Hena: Injustice must be Stopped
Thirteen year old Husna Hena shares the dream of a better tomorrow with her classmates from the student forum at Police Line School in Chittagong. She attended the first campaign meeting after her teacher mentioned it to the class.
Violence against women is not a new phenomenon for Husna. She has been witness to several incidents throughout her young life in her own home. It awakened her to the realities of the lives of women around her. When she decided to work for the campaign to end violence against women her parents said to her, “You are too young to get involved in such things, don’t interfere in the private lives of adults.” To this Husna said “There is no big or small, public or private matter; if something is unfair or unjust it must be stopped, that is what Allah wishes.” She gradually won the support of her family.
One of the first changes she made was in her own family. Her elder brother was privileged one among the siblings. She and her sister were never treated like him. She realised this difference in treatment was wrong after she understood the kinds of violence that women and girls face. She began the sensitisation process at home and spread it among her community of friends and neighbors. Husna aspires to be a doctor one day and work to improve the lives of women who are victims of violence.
