Forthcoming Events

Twelve radio programmes on the issue of honour killings have been planned for broadcast on Radio Pakistan in Urdu and Sindhi, starting 25 July 2005. The programmes are to be spread over a period of three months and will be aired from Radio Pakistan Quetta, Khuzdar, Khairpur and Larkana. The radio programmes will be of 20 minute duration and will look at honour killing from different dimensions and use a variety of stories to bring out the gravity of the situation. It will also highlight the role of the government and community organisations to end this practice and play the song 'Hum Log Mita Denge Ek Din Yeh Siah-Kaari' (one day we will end 'honour' killing) to reinforce the campaign’s commitment to end this practice. The ‘We Can’ campaign Islamabad Secretariat will also solicit feedback from listeners and air them.

GEO TV, a well known private television channel in Balochistan, plans to soon record a TV talk show on honour killing. Called Pachaas Minute (50 Minutes), the talk show will throw open the issue of honour killing for debate. This regular talk show accommodates 200 participants per show; a huge contingent of allies of the Pakistan ‘We Can’ campaign will participate.
