Dr. A R M Farooque worked as a medical officer in a reproductive health project of Nari Maitree, an NGO. He recently became a Change Maker in the “We Can’ campaign. Each Friday he provides free service to his clients in his village Kapasia in the Gazipur district. He has also actively begun to counsel his women patients on the health hazards they face due to discriminatory practices at home. “Many of them suffer from reproductive tract infections and my talking has helped them – for the first time – to understand how they can cope with such problems.” He has taken to maintaining a separate register about individual cases so that he can counsel women on issues that relate to their domestic life. He says he is doing this, as women at the moment have not begun to realise that abuse against them is a human rights’ violation.
