Bangladesh - Van rally: Connecting people, places and messages

The ‘We Can’ team of Change Makers in Gaibandha organise three campaign events every year. In 2006, Change Makers attached to the Gono Unnayan Kendro (GUK) in Gaibandha, a campaign ally, orgnised a huge cultural van rally in Gaibandha with remarkable success from 28 June to 10 July. It was marked by theatre performances, songs, drawing competitions, film shows and video shows that culminated in a colourful van rally that made the campaign messages highly visible.

On 9 July 2006, a van rally with a long line of 25 vans carrying eye-catching messages of the campaign left Nashratput at 10 am and moved around the Gaibandha town till 4pm in the afternoon. Vans are a common mode of transport in Bangladesh and it especially used to travel from district to district. The Change Makers used the vans and the concept of the van rally ingeniously to raise awareness on the campaign.

Around 150 Change Makers joined in and made the rally come alive as they interacted with the people and spread the message of the campaign. Music was used to enliven the atmosphere and give the event an air of festivity.
