Ahmed Bux Channa: Regaining the Initiative

“Violence against women, and in particular honour ‘killings’, is not specific to the Sindh province. Women suffer uniformly across the four provinces of Pakistan. Inadequate government policies and tribal and feudal structures have aggravated the crisis. The situation can be remedied through sustained awareness-raising initiatives”, Ahmed says.

Ahmed Bux Channa is an enlightened and educated social activist from the conservative and tribal area of Kashmore, Sindh. As the head of the Kainat Welfare Association-Kandhkot, a local NGO, he has organised several community-based events and sessions to raise awareness on violence against women, particularly ‘honour’ killings. And, as a dedicated Change Maker and resource person, he has played a crucial role in breaking the silence around these issues at the level of his community and motivating many people to join the campaign.
