16 Days of Activism in Pakistan
‘We Can’ in Pakistan celebrated 16 days of activism (25 November -10 December) last year by organizing various activities including community theatre performances, rallies, torch lit marches, press conferences, seminars, discussion forums, cultural fairs, and several meetings.
The highlight of last year has been a countrywide signature campaign. The aim: to collect 100,000 signatures on banners (over 700 of them were distributed) to declare that violence against women should be eliminated. Change Makers were active in this process and drew attention to the campaign through meetings in localities, dialogues with stakeholders, door to door campaigns.
Due to uncertain political situation in the country, mass public events were avoided. The campaign allies, instead, chose to drum up attention and support for the campaign through radio programmes on FM radio Pakistan ; rickshaw rallies in NWFP and Sindh where rickshaws were painted with ‘We Can’ slogans and the logo; press conferences; meetings with parliamentarians and political party representatives; corner meetings and dialogue sessions with communities; and interactive dialogue with college/university students and parents with quiz programmes and debate competitions thrown in.
