‘We Can’ Messages on World Population Day
Sylhet CM conferenceIn Bangladesh, the ‘We Can’ campaign allies attempt to come together three times in a year: March, July and November. This year in July, however, 70 percent of the districts in the country remained submerged by floods. But braving all odds, the Nari Maitree, a prominent campaign ally, organised a variety of events in July.
On 11 July 2007, celebrated the world over as World Population Day, Nari Maitree organised a rally on violence against women on behalf of the allies in association with the health directorate of the government. The rally drew wide participation and attention. Government officials, NGOs, and people from all walks of life came forward to pledge their support. A deep impact was made by Change Makers who spoke to the people directly. They discussed issues relating to violence against women, the rights of women, the disastrous health consequences of domestic violence and the role of men in minimising the severity of violence. Impressed by the dedication of Change Makers, many people were keen to enlist as Change Makers as well and help make a difference.
